Client: Boston University School of Medicine Office of Continuing Medical Education

Save-the-date postcard, eight-panel brochure, and email promotional pieces for the Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics conference. The conference was renamed to include the name of its founder, Dr. Steven J. Parker in 2010. The new course director wanted to include a biography of Dr. Parker on both the postcard and brochure, which was a new addition to the design that had been used on conference materials from previous years.

Title: Sanguine Theory website

Client: Sanguine Theory

This site was designed for Boston-based design and strategy firm, Sanguine Theory. The site features a variation of the original Sanguine Theory logo, to better utilize the screen space available. The front page gives the meaning of the firm’s name (“confident, passionate ideas”), while still allowing users to reach the main site navigation.

Within each section, a page with thumbnails of the projects inside that section is displayed. This allows the user to see work as an overview, and then allows them to click on each thumbnail for a larger image and more detail about the project.

The project-specific page allows for a larger image of the work, and gives information about the client and guidelines, as well as any necessary additional details, such as photography credits.

Title: Sanguine Theory visual identity

Client: Sanguine Theory

Sanguine Theory is a design and creative strategy firm in Boston, MA. One of the definitions of “sanguine” is “cheerfully confident, optimistic, and passionate”; “theory” is a “belief or principle that guides action”. Together, the name translates to “confident, passionate ideas”. The Japanese kanji used in this logo means “energy”, which was an clean summary of the firm’s name. The font Marigold was used here to keep with the Asian feel of the logo, but without resorting to more stereotypical Asian-style fonts or over-the-top display fonts. Because of the other definition of “sanguine” (“of the color of blood; a healthy reddish color”), red was used to display vibrancy and energy. White and black keep the kanji and type simple and allow the logo to be reproduced in one color or two, on white, black, or colored backgrounds.

Client: Stitch-n-Bitch Boston

Logo for the Boston Stitch-n-Bitch Yahoo! group. Boston Stitch-n-Bitch is a group of local knitting meetings in the Boston metro area.

Rather than using the more typical Boston landmarks, the logo depicts the Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge, which runs Interstate 93 and US 1 across the Charles River. The bridge cables are replaced with colorful lines, representing the group’s yarn craft obsession, and the retro font is a reference to the vintage photographs that illustrate Debbie Stoller’s Stitch-n-Bitch: The Knitter’s Handbook.
